Hi we want to buy a flat screen tv and fit it on the wall over the fire, does anyone know if this is ok and will the heat affect the tv in any way, or if anyone has done this and found it ok to do so. Thankyou.

You are unable to put a flat screen tv above a fire as the heat will effect your tv screen along with being a fize hazard. I had this problem due to the shape of my living room. Instead we have central heating on all the time and no longer use the fire but obviously this would not be to everyones liking. Good luck ;-)
And will the chimney breast support it? It may be a very heavy piece of kit.

Not above the fire, no. And unless you want ugly wires trailing, you'd have to bury them into the chimney breast wall. Not a good idea.

Don't do it.

The heat from the fire will melt the plasma screen components, killing the TV.
