cat age
whats considered a good age for a cat. mine is now 22 . her coat is a bit scruffy now and shes no teeth left. the other day she had a type of seizure i think. i am taking her to the vets. do you think its time to let go. she is very well loved. i have had her all her life....longer than both my kids. but i dont want her suffering.

22 is a good age for a cat. I would be honest with your vet and listen carefully to their advice. They would not tell you to put any animal to sleep if they did not think it was absolutely necessary. If that is what they recommend, you can stay with her (they just literally go to sleep) or, if you feel you cannot do that, then you can leave her with the vet and a nurse.
I think in your heart you already know the answer to your question.
It is probably the hardest thing that you will ever do, but try and be strong for her sake.
In time you will remember the good times, you have given her a long and happy life, she has never been hungry or known loneliness.
Take the time to grieve, don't be around people who will tell you 'its just a cat' or 'get another one'. People mean well, but they don't understand.
Not much more I can say, but listen to your vet and be prepared, also prepare your kids (don't forget they have had her ALL their life, they cannot remember a time without her).

my old cat, age unknown, had a seizure in May and the vet I spoke to to was totally unconcerned.
Two days later he had another fit and I took him to the vet. This vet couldn't have been nicer and more sympathetic. I was there when George went to pussycat heaven.
I cried a lot, but it was such a relief. If he had suffered a fit whilst on his own he would have been scared. I was also making myself ill worrying about him.
You obviously love your cat and you know that you have made the right decision in taking her to the vet.

Really sorry, but you know, even through your grief, that this was the best for Bonnie. I know you would rather suffer the pain of her loss, than let her suffer the pain of staying with you when her time has come.
No words will make it easier, but please know you did the best for Bonnie all through her amazingly long life, even when it was so hard for you.
You could do no more than love your pet through her life, and mourn her passing - no cat could ask for a better owner than you.

if she is still eating and drinking and peeing and pooping and she is not in any pain then i say get her a check up and enjoy her . 22 is quite old actually so you have been very lucky with your little girl. maybe there is some kind of treatment for the seizure she had, but at her age i would not go for anything too invasive as i said she is quite the old girl. Ahhhh! soooo sorry! You little girl had a wonderful LONG life with you and everyone else that loved her. You must have taken especially good care of her for her to live to such a ripe old age. Be assured she crossed over the Rainbow Bridge and is now in heaven jumping and gamboling after butterflies and birdies. She will be right there waiting for you when it is your time. They never leave us in spirit just in body. Dont be surprised if you sense her every now and then as she will often come home for a visit to her beloved family.
