my friends cat has destroyed her wooden window frames - blah de blah, see Home & Garden - and i've realised that my cat is well on the way to doing the same. How can i stop her doing this? I've tried getting her one of those scratching post thingys and she just doesn't want to know.

You can buy sticky strips that you place on the furniture the cat scratches - cats hate the stickiness and should stop scratching at that site.

You can buy spray cans full of a liquid which you spray on the furniture. This is supposed to deter cats. Most large pet stores will stock it.
