Shame you can't phone the shop & naughtily pretend there was only one in the box when you opened it!
What sort of clasp did they have? Could you not say that it must have been faulty or something?

worth a try smudge , lisa the clasp was the type that clips into like a v shape which i especially ask for as they seem to be the most secure, how ironic..
Sorry, but are you really going to pretend that it was never in the box? Would your conscience allow that?
Question Author
probably not drestie, bet they dont have a conscience when they try to sell you these insurances that arent worth a bean either.
It's true. I didn't even know jewelery shops sell insurance.

Here in the US, small pieces of jewelery would be covered under our homeowners insurance policy. Do you have anything like that?

It's such a shame about your earring. Would the shop be willing to give you a deal on one replacement earring?

And one more stupid idea - have you checked the vacuum bag?
I'm as honest as the day is long drestie & don't know if I'd have the guts to do so myself - but it was only a suggestion as some people might!

Besides fruitsalad is right, these companies make a small fortune out of selling insurance cover for all & sundry!

I know you are smudge! I certainly wasn't implying that you would! From what I have read of you on here, I think you are a woman of very strong moral character.

A lot of people use the reasoning you have described: that a company makes a lot of money or overcharges or something... but that is your choice to patronise them or not.
I just don't think that it would justify stealing from them. It's an interesting issue though.

I myself have struggled with similar dilemmas, such as whether to tell the cashier if something rings up lower than the ticketed price, when I know that the item is overpriced to begin with. I have friends who buy things at a particular store and use 20% off coupons, and then they return the items without a receipt for store credit, and then they have 20% more to spend. To me, that is stealing, but they argue that everything in that store is at least 20% overpriced anyway.

Question Author
didnt give my home insurance a thought, thanks drestie will give that a try first.
No problem, fruitsalad. I am sure it will turn up, probably as soon as you've replaced it!

Happy new year!
Back again inbetween the adverts!!!

Thank you for the compliment drestie. I know what you mean about 'stealing' - apart from being very naughty, it's what helps put the price of insurance premiums up too!

Just an aside - A few years back, I lost my beautiful engagement ring & was beside myself with sadness. However, a couple of weeks later at my 50h birthday party & in front of family & friends, my husband gave me a long tube like present. When I opened the wrapping paper it revealed a used kitchen roll. I wondered what the hell he was up to - then my engagement ring fell out onto my lap! My husband had found it in the footwell of his car when hoovering it out, so I must have been twidding my fingers as he was driving along & didn't notice it slip off! I promptly burst into tears & was overjoyed at being reunited with it once again!

Things can turn up in the most unlikely places, so good luck fruitsalad!
just hope you been good and its not in somone elses car......sorry just kidding

it will more than likely turn up, probably after the house insurance pays for new ones, but that is why you have insurance, so put it to good use
although insurance can't replace sentimental items,
just hope you find it
