..wasn't sure whether to put it here or in the 'Technology' section. The SKY box in the lounge (about 8 years old) is on its way out, my own and (one year old) SKY box is currently upstairs not being used. Can we just swap the boxes around using the card from the older box? Is it as simple as that...? Sky charge 70 just for call out otherwise....

Thanks and Happy New Year. x

i think you can, it works with NTL.

Just have a go, whats the worst that can happen? You only need to swap a few cables around :D
no,it wont work,if you just put the card in,you have to phone sky and they will instruct you how to do it, its only to go through a few simple steps, then they send a signal to the card and box and it will work, takes a few minutes
Our Sky box went on the blink and it cost us about 70 for an engineer to come out and diagnose it as on its way out. They swapped it over for another box and that was it. But after the guy had gone we found we couldn't access the services. As Norman said we had to phone Sky who went through it with us on the phone, as they needed the box id number which was accessible through the onscreen menu. They then did something at their end (sent a signal down the line or something) and after that - no problem.
i once reported a problem with my sky , they quoted me 65 to have an engineer come and look at it, i told them no way was i paying that and they could take it out!, anyhow the upshot was i got a callback from them halving the quoted cost...... and they would fix whatever the problem was. ended up needing a whole new reciever box and got a completely new one for 32. stick to your guns if you do ring, they will relent
