Are you PAYE?
PAYE employees can't get away with much when it comes to tax deductions. The principal ones for teachers (which are automatically accepted) are 'professional memberships'. When I was teaching, I successfully claimed my union membership fees (P.A.T.), and my membership fees for the Mathematical Association, the Association of Teachers of Mathematics, the Institute of Mathematics & its Applications and the College of Preceptors. However, my claims for such things as 'essential replacements of tools of my trade' (e.g. a new scientific calculator) were always ignored.

Chris
As Chris says, there's very little you can claim as a Paye teacher. Professional memberships and any training you paid for yourself, ie you may choose to go on a course personally, that would be deductable. Not much else.

Yes, I am PAYE. I was wondering if I could claim for P.E. clothing etc, as this is a small part of my job
Home computer and broadband (for lesson prep???), newspapers, general stationery, clothing, home bills if working from home during student holidays.

Just ideas, I don't really know.
Its worth a go but, as Chris says, you probably won't get far. The trouble with the above good ideas is that the products can also be used for non-work, and the products/ervices have to be solely possible to use for work - hence clothing very typically has to be emblazoned Burton Grammar School or whatever to be allowed.

Thank you. Worth trying, although I will be prepared for disappointment.
