Hi Kelly,

I answered this one in the 'adverts' section too (lol) so at the risk of repeating myself -

A very large crowd (most of whom have been drinking in the many nearby pubs beforehand) gathers in Trafalgar Square on the run-up to midnight to celebrate as Big Ben chimes in the New Year. Its usually a great atmosphere around there - although you might receive a few hugs and kisses from complete strangers !

Never heard of a 'Titanic' hotel though - are you sure that's the name? Who would think of naming a hotel after a disaster?!!

If you let me know the name of the show/restaurant you're going to (unless its a surprise from your boyfriend?) I'm sure that I can send you some links to reviews of them both.

Probably:
Titanic Bar
81 Brewer Street
London
W1F 9TX
(Couldn't locate the official website. As usual from Google you get all the usual review sites etc. which may be useful to you)

In the Soho/Picadilly Circus area. This bar has been around awhile, had it's iconic stage, done the rounds etc.etc...... but, do your own research depending on what you are after.

I have been to London a few times at New Years, and it is a good atmosphere, in order to make the most of it you need to be organised.

If you go to Trafalgar Square, you have to get there early, as you won't get anywhere near if you turn up at 23:45. When I was there, there were some LED sign's, and at 00:05, they then started flashing, 'Met Police wish you a Happy New Year, now go home'. You're not encouraged to hang around!!!

Last year I tried to get to the South Bank. From here you have a good view of the fireworks which are over the Thames. We got distracted by the pubs on the way, and got there to late. The police had closed the roads down to the south bank, and as a consequence we didn't make it to the South Bank. We ended up on Millbank, and had to watch the fireworks through gaps in the buildings.

I would recommend that the South Bank is a better option than Trafalgar Square. But you will probably have to get down there 2/3 hours early before the police start blocking the roads.

Take a bottle of champagne, as everyone else has one, and if you don't have one, you feel left out!! Take some party poppers, see above.

If you want to make the most of New Years, I would have something organised for after midnight. You will need tickets for clubs, and you might want to check out some pubs. After midnight, you're encouraged to disperse, so you probably want to move on elsewhere.

You said you had some accomodation booked, but, last year we booked some accomodation at 11:00 on New Years Eve. We used laterooms.com and there was loads of availability. We stayed in Pimlico for about 50, and everywhere is walking distance from there.
I'm a Londoner and Trafalgar Square is awful and not worth the effort unless you want to get pushed about be scared of being mugged and have a nightmare journey home

The Titanic was a bar that was on Air Street but closed down a few years ago there is not a hotel by that name that I have every heard of in central London - think the Titanic is now the Cuckoo Club but you need members guest list to get in as you did with Titanic unless you were eating

Hey thanks guys. i did try and book tickets for this titanic party thing but last minute crashed just after i put in my details so i gave up. it is the titanic bar not hotel oops. and i seen a review saying it was some pierre white chef and wasnt worth going to and the staff are rude. but i dont know if a party night would be different.
Oh Chelsea. .the show and restaurant was supposed to be a surprise but i seen his bookings. and i cant believe he is taking me to monty pythons spamalot. (i aint a fan) but he is. But hes takin me to Gary rhodes restaurant in the tower..which i am rather pleased about.

where we are staying the nearest tube is the lancaster gate so i was also wondering if there will be any newyear partys going on around there to save us country bumkins getting lost in london on the 1st of Jan. oh and i dont mind getting hugs and kisses from strangers as long as they dont pick my pockets. haha

thanks agin peeps u have been a help as always.
Unless Titanic has re-opened it closed a couple of years ago and was Marco Pierre White at that time and yes it wasnt that good - Lancaster gate is sort of in between Notting Hill Gate and Marble Arch - most clubs etc you would need to sort out tickets in advance so you need to decide - Queensway area which is near there is not that nice so wouldnt go out round there why dont you get time out or look on their website. mmmm I agree with you on Spamalot though reviews are ok! What sort of thing you looking for? Club or bar ??
