What are sharks?

I read recently that sharks aren't fish, why not?

They do not have several of the adaptations that fish have. The main one is that they do not have a bone structure but have an internal sturcture made of cartilage which is softer. I believe that they also hove no swim bladder or scales. They belong to the same family as rays.

they are fish, but they just don't have a boney skeleton like most fish do. they have cartiligonous (spelling) skeletons like rays
What I have read so far is that, everything with gills is classified a fish, and everything with lungs is classified mammal.
