This question keeps coming up in various catefories and forms!! Todays singer is Sharlene Hector but the best version was Nina Simone who sang it back in the lates 60's as a protest song - it was about the black(?) civil rights movement. It is called 'I Wish I Knew How It Would Feel To Be Free' and I have to agree that Nina did it best.

The tune's generally familiar through Barry Norman's film review programme on BBC. I don't know whether Jonathan Ross's show uses the same music.
