Careers for disillusioned teachers?

Hello

I am in my third year as a Primary School teacher. When I came into the profession, I was very enthusiastic and keen to do well. Over the last three years, my eagerness has gradually waned, from a combination of long working hours, increasing work loads, 1-day weekends, unruly children, unsupportive parents etc. Truly, it is not my intention to discourage anyone from joining the profession, but as this year progresses, I am discovering that teaching in the classroom is not the job for me.

However, I would still like to work with children/ in education in some way, since it has been a big part of my life for the past few years. Please can you advise me on other careers that are available to teachers outside the classroom. Any ideas?

Thanks very much

I know exactly how you feel. I left after a new head took all my self confidence and rubbished my experience. I found a new job in a different age group, a head who is a true people person and FUN. I love teaching again and I'm doing what I know to be right for the children.Keep looking ,there are sparky children in wonderful schools, you just aren't in one at the moment.
I think teddybon is right. Persevere if you can. Youve come a long way to get where you are. If you really cant face it any more, apply to a private school or set up as a private tutor.

Think creatively about how to use your teaching skills. You could team up with childcare people to run a structured after-school club til 18.30/19.00 for busy working parents. Or how about going back to college to teach the next generation of primary school teachers?

Good luck! Hope it works out.
