Hi gang, Right here we go... Ive got a tomtom 300 go and i want to make a backup copy just incase something goes wrong. The only problem is it wont work. Ive tried everything i know but i cant do it. I bought a 512 sd card so i know ive got enough space for updates and such. It copies onto the sd card but tomtom tells me to take it out as it wont recognise the software. Ive even formatted the sd before i try anything. The only thing is, ive lost the tomtom disc that comes with it new. Anyone out there know how to do it. Thanx in advance.

Your new SD card must be capable of of transferring data at 10mbs or 66X. Ideally you should buy a card capable of a data transfer rate of 133X or above. If your new card doesnt support these speeds then forget it.

There are a few ways to make a back-up.

One is to use TomTom Home and click on the backup option. This will back up the contents of your card to your hard drive.

The other option is to copy and past the contents of your SD card to your hard drive and then copy and past from your hard drive to your new SD card

If these options won twork then TomTom recommend installing an earlier version of the software on your new card Which they will supply to you via e-mail and then updating the new card using TomTom Home.

If in doubt check the support section of their website.

confabs right, its almost certainly going to be the card speed thats the problem as I found out to my cost when I tried to back up my card. I bought a 66X card and got nowhere while a second purchase of a 133X worked fine. Tomtom is a fussy ****** although you can backup to your hard drive if you want to instead.

I tried to back up to my hard drive but it still wont work. How do you check the speed on your sd card. It will copy to my H/D but it wont work when i put it on the sd card and plug it in.
if you go to the Tomtom site there is a freely downloadable program (Tomtom home ?) that will do the back up for you. Failing that you can always just copy and paste from the card to a new folder on your hard drive (just make sure that before you copy, you amend the file type view on windows to show all the hidden files so that they are copied to).
