Fuel tank additions

Has anyone heard of a way to save fuel by inserting something into the fuel tank.

Is this something you have heard about? More info may help dispel the myth. (one I've seen is magnets on the fuel pipe to ionise the fuel!) If you mean physically place something in, then all that would do is reduce the tanks capacity, and may block or damage the fuel pickup pipe. Most modern ECUs accurately meter the fuel to the engine for optimum economy and/or performance whilst keeping within emission regulations. Some companies do tinker with these settings for improved economy or performance, but you gain one, loose another. Something you would add could only upset this, may damage the motor or invalidate warranties etc. At the end of the day the best way to save fuel is to follow accepted driving recommendations, buy a more economical mode of transport or stay in.

Thank you Smithy, I was indeed referring to physically placing something in the tank but not as a fuel displacment aid. The item( top secret) does something to the fuel I guess.

There are many systems on the market (to see a yahoo search on them CLICK HERE ) ranging from the dubious claims to the outrageous, but as smithy says the best way to save fuel is either not to drive or potter about like a nun.

I'd venture to suggest that the reason it is "Top Secret" is that it does nothing at all. Is it called the Emperors new additive? Do they recomend altering you driving habits too? It sounds like those diet pills which you pay a fortune for which then say "must be used as part of a calorie controlled diet" If I sound cynical it's just that I'm a firm believer in if it sounds too good to be true, it is.
