kwicky, Im sure thats helped caz no end. How long ago was that? The test i had recently for glaucoma was nothing like that at all, they just blow a puff of air into your eye, no injections or pain involved.
Totally agree,"redcrx" the test for glaucoma is only a little puff, so don't be put off at all by that thought "cazxx1" . Go on now, phone for that appointment and think to yourself you are going to look forward to going and getting new style frames. - then maybe treat yourself, some nice piece of clothing, probably a scarf would be good for this weather ! Think ahead whilst you are in the test, (but don't forget to concentrate on what they are asking !!) and imagine the treat you are going to get afterwards in the next shop !
As everyone has said there really is nothing to be scared of. I've worn contacts for about 15 years now and get my eyes tested once a year including that glaucoma test which as others have said is just a little puff of air - nothing to worry about at all.

Generally I've found all opticians to be really nice, friendly people. I recently went to a new one because I've moved and so had to have a test from scratch. Without my contacts in she asked me to read the smallest line I could on the chart on the wall and I squinted for moment and said "well I think the top letter is an A but I wouldn't swear to it" - that's how bad my eyes are and the optician just laughed and said "ok then!".

Don't worry about it, honestly you'll be fine. Your eyes are too important to ignore and if you're having trouble seeing things then you'll be straining your eyes and just making them worse.

Good luck.
The fact that you can use your husband's cheap glasses shows there is nothing intrinsically wrong with your vision so a trip to the supermarket to find a cheap pair of specs with a greater magnification is all that is required!
Further to my comment about having a test for glaucoma I should have pointed out that this was carried out in a university and involved trainee graduates so I suppose they were looking for something extraordinary to do with glaucoma.
i dont like to contradict anyone, but I really wouldn't just go to the supermarket and buy off the peg glasses, although you think they are ok for you they could be straining your eye muscles and you maybe wouldn't realise it, also, the opticians usually look right into the eye and see the back of the eye too, this can detect any thing that may be at fault way before it could become a problem, so , pluck up the courage, go and get checked , you will have piece of mind and a lovely new pair of specs to show.
