What is the white smoke coming from the exhaust and what is it caused from?

White smoke coming from a car exhaust can indicate a cracked cylinder head or leaking gasket. Remove the oil cap and see if there is a yellowish gunge around it. If that's not the case, it could be simply condensation in the exhaust system and the white smoke will dissapear once the exhaust has reached normal operating temperure. You will also not notice any white smoke when weather conditions are milder.
Also try looking at the dip stick (no not yourself) for any other colour than oil colour. If it looks all white and snotty then you are getting water in your oil so your head gasket is leaking thus white smoke coming from the exhaust
