i'm a 17 yr old girl and my legs are scarred beyond all reason. i can't wear shorts because everyone asks me what happened. i have had this problem since i was 13. it happened because my legs get insanely itchy, and i have scratched them so much that they are now permanently scarred and in most lighting, they are almost completely purple and red. i don't want a product that will stop me from itching, because even if i don't itch, the scars will still be there. it's getting to the point where i don't even want to live anymore because i feel so uncomfortable with my body. what i want to know is "HOW CAN I GET RID OF MY SCARS?"

Bobbikay - first of all what is the cause of the itching, have you been to a Doctor? You must do this. Your first step is to cure the itching which may be any one of a number of things but sounds like excema maybe? If your legs really are badly scarred Dr. can advise on that too.
Once the cause has been found then you can work on your legs, you are still young, so your skin can still go someway towards healing, Plenty of fruit and vegetables as you need vitamins C and D as they help heal also zinc, which again helps you heal. (You can buy vitamin C and Zinc tablets in any healthfood shop) Also you need to drink plenty of water as you need to be hydrated for healthy skin renewal. Also use moisturiser on your legs every day. All of these things will help.

Despite the fact that you don't like the way your legs look you will possibly find they are not as bad as you think - things always seem worse to ourselves than they do to others honestly! - Once you stop itching you'll be surprised at how much they improve, it won't happen overnight mind you so be patient.

Good Luck X
i'm a 27 year old man, and i know it's different for boys but when i was 11 years old i was involved in a car accident which resulted in extensive leg injuries, with scars all over my legs too, but even though i'm a man it still somtimes makes me feel like taking an axe to them because in my opinion the look so ugly, however don't be disheartened i took myself (and my legs) to the doc's and they referred me to the skin specialist at my local hospital and i'm getting lazer treatment which has significantly reduced most of the minor scars but i needed some skin grafts which the lazer can't fix, but now i feel much better about myself, keep your chin up be proud of yourself ant take action just making an appointment will take a load off your shoulders, keep in touch.
Hi, please listen to the advice that has been given above! You need to see you GP and tell him how you feel. He/she will be able to prescribe medication for the itching and offer advice on the scarring.

The reason the scars are red/purple in colour is because they are new. In time most, although maybe not all will disappear. Have you tried a product called Bio-oil? It is a little expensive, especially if there is a lot of skin to cover, but highly effective. Also Vitamin E oil or any cream containing Vit E will help reduce the scars.

From another [and don't think I'm being flippant] lighter point of view....Winter is on the way and we will all be in trousers and tights! Use the winter months to try out the above suggestions....Most creams need applying at least twice a day and changes in diet/vitamin supplements take a while to get in to your system and to start to work properly. When we get back into warmer times there are camoflage[sp] creams that can work wonders and you'd be amazed at what a fake tan can cover!!!

Please don't be so down....there's always someone on here to listen to you...Sending you a big hug....
