Has anyone had any dealings with a company called Personal Accident Plus ? I had a cold call from this company a few days ago selling me accident insurance. They claim to be a subsidiary of Sterling Insurance. I have actually taken out a policy with them with 3 months free coverage. Now I'm beginning to wonder if I've done the right thing. No sign of a website and the Sterling Insurance site doesnt mention it. Help please !!

Sterling Insurance gets its business through direct marketing and through a network of brokers. I suspect this to be a broker. All companies like this and brokers are regulated by the Financial Services Authority (FSA), which ensures you get certain rights like cooling off periods. Only you can judge whether you did the right thing - Personal Accident insurance is a well-established product though not one would personally bother to buy. If you looked at the product and were satisfied with the exclusions / limitations (on pay-out), and you compared the price of the premium to a couple of other similar policies, what are you concerned about? The company is well-established and is unlikely to go bust. Your contract is with Sterling, not the intermediary.

Thanks buildersmate. You've put my mind at rest.
I also had dealings with them recently and checked with my car insurer to see if as implied this was linked to them. I had a reply today and they have said they know nothing of it and have reported it to the Counter Fraud Department.
I would check with your insurers as well
Forgot to ask, did you also get a cold call about Identity Fraud. They rang me two days later.

Hi Paul... no I never heard from them again. I understood that this policy was nothing to do with car insurance but only personal accident and hospital claims
