Is there a website that will calculate how much emulsion I will need to paint my walls and ceiling?

It is all too confusing.

I believe if you use a roller a greater coverage can be had with the same amount of paint. In addition it is possible to water down the emulsion to achieve this.
I should have asked if you were using a brush or roller..it makes a difference!
Question Author
I am going to use a roller because it is easier for me to reach the high up bits.

Part of me is thinking of paying somebody to do it - the lazy part of me that is,
It all depends on the surface you are covering; is it porous, textured, has it been painted with silk emulsion, are you painting it with silk or matt emulsion. If it's a normal sized room with non porous surfaces I usually go for 5 lts for the walls & 2 & a half lts for the ceiling.

why is stuff like this so complicated.

The room is covered in chipwood paper and it is painted a darkish colour. There is an area of plasterboard where I have just had a doorway blocked off.

I am going to paint is a light colour - and presume that I will need two coats of paint.

Do you still get the trays of solid emulsion?

Can I buy paint on-line to prevent having to drag it home?
It might need 3 coats. You can buy trays of emulsion, however this can be expensive. What colour are you painting it?
Question Author
buttermilk from Wickes, it is a light cream colour. It is a mustardy peach just now.
The cans of paint will show the coverage. As a rough guide work out the area sizes for your walls and ceilings and compare it with the area on the tins.
You should get away with 2 coats. May I suggest you buy a decent roller & an extension pole so you can reach the high bits from the floor. It beats trying to roll from the top of a stepladder.
Question Author
thanks everybody. I am in the Wickes website and ordering my paint, it will be delivered tomorrow.

Will be back with questions about carpets later in the week!?
They should be able to advise you how much you need if you give them the size of the room

lol..whats the next question.....How do I remove emulsion from my carpet?
Question Author
my dog was lying on the carpet in front of the fire once. He managed to catch the ring around the collar on one of the small loops in the carpet. He couldn't move and I was of no help (I know I shouldn't have laughed) I eventually got him free.

So I know how to remove a dog from a carpet but, sorry, not emulsion. Buy a new carpet or get a rug to cover it.
PMSL here wolf63, but the paint on the carpet question was meant for you...as in..Is that YOUR next question....lol
Question Author
sorry - too near bed time. I have a gutted the room out completely, no carpet or anything. I am making a spare bedroom into an office/playroom.

I got all my office furniture from MFI for and paid with my Tesco Clubcard vouchers. I got everything I needed and delivery and only had to pay the balance of 34. I had 75 tesco vouchers, which is 300 in MFI vouchers.

What does PMSL mean Elvis?

pee myself laughing wolf63, but not in those nice words.

No-one's said but there are 2 paint calculators on the following websites, they helped me do my front room last week.

(Oh and just for a hint if it's emulsion paint it means water based and can be rubbed off carpets with a damp cloth and I put all my clothes in the wash and they came out without any paint left on them!)
