People usually stay in hospital until they die, sometimes they go home for their final few days.

Hospice, not hospital

Or are you asking about some sort of financial support?

To access hospice care, a patient would normally require a referral from a medical professional.  The criteria for such referrals are outlined here:

My friend was put into a hospice on Boxing Day, not to die even tho her cancer is terminal, but to cope with her pain. They kept telling her she shudnt be in there for more than 2 weeks, and shud make more effort to get herself mobile so that she cud go home. She kept saying she cudnt as she was in too much pain. Eventually last week, after getting the funding approved, they have moved her to a nearby elderly residential home even tho she is only 59.

Our general hospital has paliative care wards and give hospice care.  The staff there are lovely and the wards have a nice atmosphere.

Sometimes hospital is the best place, for other situations a hospice or nursing home is more suitable.
