Does anyone know the true story behind the 'rude' episode of Rainbow as per:

You can read the script while waiting for the clip to load, then watch the clip.

Disappointingly, I don't believe this was ever aired. IIRC, it was simply a case of the cast and crew, no doubt a bit bored of having to talk in kiddie-friendly language, recording their own rather more adult episode as a bit of a laugh.

Have you been plucking your twanger, Bungle?

It was performed for the Themes Christmas tape in the late 1970's or early 1980's.

The BBC video tape editors would save out-takes and celebs swearing long before "It'll be alright on the night" came on the scene. These were shown at BBC Christmas parties. You may still see clips with stars saying " Merry Christmas VT" after a TV mis-hap.

Needless to say, some of the ITV regions followed suit with their own out-takes and specially recorded comedy sketches.

The Rainbow sketch is just that, a comedy sketch that was for Themes TV workers only. In the video age of the 1980's these Christmas tapes from the BBC and ITV made the rounds among fans.

A copy of that Rainbow episode (if it was a full episode) was for sale just before christmas on ebay.If i remember correctly it attracted a number of bids.
