If a husband and wife each have a credit card the account being in the husbands name should the husband die would the wife still be able to use her credit card or would it automatically be cancelled.

It would be cancelled and you would have to apply for a credit card in your own name

The bank would need to be advised of the death, and they would sort it out at that time.

It's always a good idea to have a credit card in your own name, even if you just use it a few times a year and pay it off in full every month.  It wouldn't cost you anything and you have an emergency back up should you need it.
