My 22 month old has started an adorable habit of smacking us in the face whenever she can!

Nothing seems to persuade her this isn't nice at all. We've tried holding her hands and sternly saying "no!", tapping her hand back, ignoring it and pretending to cry. All of the above just makes her roar with laughter!

any suggestions??

Thanks very muchly
yours
A very sore faced Boo :-(

Sorry :o) !

lol, cheers for that!!!

Almost impossible - but have you tried to not react at all?? This may need several painkillers beforehand but once she sees that it gets no reaction whatsoever I bet she stops!!
When she smacks you do the stern "no" and put her straight down on the floor. She should then see that smacking means no cuddle. It worked with ours who decided that biting was good!
Question Author
Yep, tried the ignoring bit- all it results in is us with stinging faces and her killing herself laugh :-(
Question Author
That's kinda hard to enforce Gathorne as she does it at every opportunity, not just when she's being cuddled, though she does it alot more then! So putting her on the floor doesn't work as she's already on it, if that makes sense!
Have you tried pretending to really sob out loud as though you are really upset??
Question Author
Yep, as I said in my question she just thinks that's hysterical..........

Beginning to think I've spawned a child of Satan..........

lol, I'm kidding!

My son does it and then kisses us. It seems to be a phase they all go through if im to believe other mums with toddlers.
If i say ouch i get a kiss, if i say no i get another slap so i say nothing and put him down on floor and mention a toy to distract him.

Ignore that fact is says aggressive children - just wondered if there was anything at in here to help?
Question Author
LOL- was a bit startled by the 'agressive' bit, gotta admit! I know you weren't saying she is, but it's a good opportunity to clarify she's a very loving little thing really, I'm probably painting her blacker than necessary to try and get me point across- sorry Mini Boo!

will look at the link though- thanks for finding it for me :-)
Definitely a phase, that may last as little (little, huh?) as a couple of weeks. Not nice, very annoying, but the key is not to overreact and to make it seem boring. It does get better.
all i can suggest is saying no and just walking away from her. no hugs no shouts no nothing. if you stand up she cant continue to hit your face.

Thanks folks :-)

i was 99.9% convinced it was a phase, but just needed the reassurance I guess.

Adorable phase innit? NOT!
Hello Boo, Yeah I remember our little female mini nox doing something very similar and we handled it by ignoring. It did take a while, but we did the sticking her on the floor thing and standing up so it was physically impossible for her to do it again, then distracting with something really nice or interesting and eventually after a few weeks it just disappeared, but like your ittle one it used to properly amuse her, used to laugh her head off.She was about 20 months old at the time if i recall, so as you've identified, just a phase.
