Many thanks ProfM. That's very kind of you. Am I right to assume that down clues 20, 23 and 25 should have clues?

Geoff

21d is the awkward one, hankir - if you're using an anagram-cruncher take out the last two letters (IE) and use 'y' instead (or maybe you know the Scots hat starting with 'G'?).

Yes, Geoff -

20 Produced a sound copy (6)

23 Wild notion of wild aide? (5,4)

25 Free from fine nut-tree, felled (8)

What a pathetic effort this week. Abstruse is not in it! But relieved to have finished!!

Many thanks ProfM. You are very kind. Am I right to assume that 20, 23 and 25 down are clued entries? My download has them as unclued.

Geoff

Sorry ProfM. Posts crossed. Thanks very much. At least I know I'm not losing my mind. This is perhaps an excellent example of Doc's editing skills. Geoff

Check the posts above, Geoff.

hankir - you're right about the witches (and I put a very direct hint in brackets in my last answer regarding the tax/language issue).

There are times I've had the same problem printing the grid directly from the Spectator site - I think it's their way of getting us to buy the mag (I don't, by the way}.

I can' t print from the download either. I copy and paste the text into a Word document, then right-click the crossword image itself, copy image and paste in as well.

I can print from the site but I've noticed over the past couple of weeks that the grid and clues are now smaller on the page. I can fill the grid ok but a bit fiddly. I don't think it's anything I've changed in the print settings.

Struggling more than usual with this one. 19D Prepared for plastering on reef in Gabon (6) ???ING. Also, is 9D UNITED STATES? How so? Land, yes, but wordplay?

19d key in g

9d U S   useless

33d - "poesy" fits definition and "crossers" - but why "English or not"? Can anyone advise?

33d - "poesy" fits definition and "crossers" - but why "English or not"?

Posy and posey are both acceptable. So posey less E(nglish) = posy.
