I'm trying to work out what i can fit in  a 3 Metre single storey extension on a semi - cupboards appliances etc .

Can anyone tell me what the depth of the walls  would be , so i can take that off the outer dimensions, in order to see what the internal width / lengths are.

Basically, how thick are walls on a standard extension , nowadays ?

Impossible to say without seeing the drawings, Baz.

Timber frame might be only 150mm.

Masonry brick/block can be anything from 250mm to 350mm.

Just measure the inside dimensions. If you still need to know the thickness of the wall

measure the outside dimensions and see what the difference is.

This is what it says on the plans TB , however i'm unsure  how thick the wall is from that info

The extension is not built yet . We are trying to decide if we need a 4m extension or a 3 Metre extension

That's 303mm for the masonry... plus approx. 20-25mm for the 'dot& dab' plasterboard & skim.

Make it 4m, you'll only have a ongoing nagging "What If" if you go for 3m.

Question Author

Thanks TB

So that's 328mm approx

What does 'dot& dab' mean , by the way ?

Also, nice to see you and others are still here - I've not been on here for about a year ( I don't suppose anyone noticed  - lol )

Canary, her indoors said we should go for the 4m extension - then said she's not sure and wanted me to see what we could fit into a 3m

Women eh? 😀😀😀😀😀

Well I missed you Baz  😀

'Dot & dab' is just a way of fixing plasterboard to the wall (instead of nails.)

A few dabs (dots) of adhesive and the board is pressed onto them.

Indeed Canary :-)

Thanks TB :-)

I can see that one of the things that's happened since i was on is the ability to include emoticons on a thread ( someone will have to tell me how )

I wonder what else I've missed ? :-)

328mm is exactly 328mm. Are you looking for inches? If so, why? (It's about 13.5 inches, or 13 and four eighths of an inch, or 13 and 8 sixteenths, and so on ad infinitum)

You won't know what you can fit in until the thing is built. Whatever the drawings show, take it all with a pinch of salt.
