As an ex member of the armed forces I recently discovered that I was entitled to a Blue Light Card, which allows me discount in hundreds of stores and restaurants.  The card was originally designed for members of the emergency services but it does include members of the armed forces who have served at least 2 years.

Application can be made on line at www.bluelightcard.co.uk.

They're really good, both my wife and I have one, loads of places take them

I got a massive discount (£150) on a Citizen watch just before Christmas last year. Yesterday I had a discount code from them to go to Currys to purchase a replacement food processor. Just my luck. I left it a day or so too late and it had expired. I was at the pay till and couldn't be bothered to renew it.

Strangely enough they told my wife she wasn't eligible although she was a full time staff nurse with the NHS. A close friend who trained together in the same set got hers. My wife just uses mine.

My son has one through the NHS, very useful and only £5-6 .
