I work in an office, my close colleague has been referred for the above - do any ABers have any experience with this? We are clueless as to what he should expect. The initial appointment is in a week. Thanks

Occupational therapy focuses chiefly on helping patients develop skills needed to perform specific tasks. A person who suffers from depression may find it difficult to manage daily activities. The occupational therapist Wwill work with this person to help them accomplish everyday tasks. For example, by creating with them a schedule that helps the person plan activities for the day might be one goal.
I went to one for a few months about my anxiety attacks but I didn't find that he helped at all as he basically made me focus on the problem, talk about it, and give me methods to calm myself when having an anxiety attack... he didn't actually try and solve the problem. I found the thing to help most was a hypnotherapist. My attacks stopped straight after the first appointment... I had 6 in total. And my confidence grew with each one.

thanks for your replies... he's a bit scared as it seems very institutional or something like that. Rubyrose, what happened with the hypnotherapy? What is that based on?
The hypnotherapy was much more about solving the root of the problem and things like that. It was brilliant and I would recommend it to anyone.. especially someone who had the same problems I did! I wasted so much time with the occupational therapist and I wish I hadn't! The hypnotherapist really solved all the things causing the anxiety and helped me to undersdtand it a lot more.

hey Rubyrose, thanks again... I let him know what you said. He'll just have to go to this appt and see what happens, and maybe look into the hypnotherapy option. Do you mind letting me know if you had to pay for the hypnotherapy?
