if your bottom line is the ability to be comfy and control, you need to test drive several (on in my case seemingly hundreds) i am disabled, and for comfort i drive an auto. But depending on the make, the button to operate the stick was tricky for my fingers. I liked one car, but it was too low for me to comfortably get in and out of it; i liked another but the door handle was too difficult for me to get my fingers in
Bednobs excellent post, with such needs several cars need to be tested
Yes, you did need to sit in the driving seat at the very least before booking a test drive.

of course, if its just the hanbrakes/gearstick thing and everything else is ok then if you just got the auto version of what you are driving now you should be grand
what are you driving now JJ?
The Vauxhall Corsa automatic has good write ups. A friend of ours has one and is very pleased with it

Have owned a Honda Jazz auto, superb. four door hatchback, light and esy to drive, wonderful automatic gearbox and very reliable and frugal on petrol.
