Get a catalogue and open it up and sit on it
I did this and was very happy with the result, although the 3 seater wasn`t as big as I expected, but the 2 seater was ok

if not go to your local DFS they have a closing down sale every week

Argos often have some of their sofas in store for you to try.
Alternatively why not knock on a few doors and ask if you can have a go of their sofas?
