6d Aleus ... anag a sue l
The Critic
Yamasaki
8.Yam asaki ?
Thank you very much.
25a Thinking it might end in gale ....(Tom Gale athlete)
Something gale is unlikely as the sixth letter is an e.
Sorry! An L. Dodgy typing again. I can gloss it but that might spoil it.
^^ I was looking at OP's ... ?A?????E were ? is written for 6th letter!

Have you solved more to say there is an E as 6th letter?
Question Author
6th is definitely an L.

As it stands -

?A?T?L?E
#25 fast(w)olfe
6D is Aleus, being A followed by Sue+L all reversed
8D is Yamasaki, the architect, being A+May all reversed with Saki (Munro, the author)
I see you have an R in 15D. I don’t know how to read 33A cryptically unless it’s the two meanings of Fellow?
And have put Wilde (as in Oscar) for 23A. Any thoughts?
Thanks L-I-K.
You're welcome :-)
Still can’t quite see 25A Fast+(W)olfe, but who is the cowardly knight? Tom Wolfe is the US author, okay, but who is Fastolfe?
John, whose surname has a variation with an E.
It's where Shakespeare got "Falstaff", the cowardice being his invention for the character.

Ok, that link doesn't work in Firefox but is fine in Edge & Chrome.
