I think I have the answer. Stay in bed. Go down for breakfast at 9.30. Take a slow walk to the pool or beach with your towels. Any empty sun loungers, throw off their towels, move the beds elsewhere, sit on them. Simples.

I saw that on in the papers, ridiculous way to spend a holiday
Pathetic.
The hotel management should implement a policy that if a sunbed is not used for, say, half an hour then staff removes everything to allow others to use it.
A stroll down the street in most tourist towns will have you passing a Casa Bargains or somesuch where you can buy a couple of fold-up chairs for a few Euro and they can be left for Conchita and her family as a wee thank-you for all her hard work cleaning up after you all week.
Germans used to be notorious for getting up at an unearthly hour and going down to "book" loungers by placing their towels on them.
Never have , never will, they looked so stupid seeing them scrambling around like fevered ants !!

That is not a relaxing holiday, getting up at dawn to rush out and queue. Madness.
We stayed at a hotel a few years ago where we chose sun loungers from a list of those available on arrival. Our room number was put on them so no problem whatever time we wanted sit by the pool.
To me that's not a holiday it's a punishment!
I have the answer

Stay well away from hotels in holiday resorts.
I just don't get this lying by the Pool at the hotel thing. You're on holiday, I like to explore where i am. One thing I always try and do is find places the locals use rather than the touristy stuff.
Yep, that whole lying beside the pool/on the beach thing was never going to work as a business model.

Pass me another pile of stones dear.
sausages simmering in the sun, skin like leather, bunch of fat crocodiles sitting astride there watering hole.
Wordsworth you ain't.
