If the clergy are within religions that enforce celibacy, then they are very likely to find it difficult to comply and that seems to lead to awful tensions which end up with religious disobedience involving denial of their own sexuality and desires.
What do you mean by 'the church'? The church he belonged to has over 200,000 members, I don't know how many of them are sex offenders.
