Such as extreme trans and environmental activists? Why aren't they ignored, they are tiny minorities which the vast majority of the general public disagree with. What are the politicians scared of?

That is sheer garbage untiutled, no way has anyone asked enough of the population to get that idea.

And even if they did, dependent on the question you would get different answers.

As for the OP, I have often wondered that. Same with some commercial companies, just what are they thinking - Budweiser for one!

do not think politicians are "in thrall" to trans groups..

no I think they are in thrall to the usual
pension - seats in the Lords,
what they will do ( which boards they will join) when they are voted out of office
