So says Trainspotting author Irvine Welsh. He goes on to say 'a drive towards banning anything possibly upsetting risks turning us into robots….We can’t expect other people to tiptoe around us in case we say something, or they get exposed to something that’s going to hurt.//

Since supporting J K Rowling's defence of women-only spaces the lifelong socialist has been attacked by trans activists and branded a fascist.

In the new edition of Radio Times, he laughed at the idea and said: “The people who purport to be on the left, you always ask them, ‘What’s your end game, what do you actually want to see?’

“And what they want to see is them in control of everybody else.”

From my point of view this man is speaking with a very welcome breath of fresh air - and him a socialist too! Your thoughts?

Do you know much about Irvine Welsh, Noami? He sort of has a point but the fact that there's no substantiation of his claims that he's been 'attacked' is suspicious. I think his brand of 'socialism' may be fairly far to the right.
He seems to lie about his age claiming he was born in '58 but police records state '51. In his youth he was arrested for petty crimes and finally a suspended sentence for vandalising a North London community centre. He was also a heroine addict in his 20s.

There's a documentary on Sky arts called 'Offended by Irvine Welsh'. Which is kinda ironic.

You may also like to know that he's anti Trump and anti Conservative.

I'm not sure whether the above tempers your view of him as a breath of fresh air or not.

You may, or may not also be interested on his views about Black people in the arts / media:

He is a breath of fresh air because of all that ZM.

Personally I dont think the real left are a problem on this, the issue is the Metropolitan liberal elite that have infiltrated all parties, education the Police, Judiciary and Government offices.
//but police records state '51//

You are aware that the PNC data is not necessarily validated? Plenty of false nameds DoB and Addresses on there.
Question Author
I don't anything about him other than he's an author, but whatever he is, or might think about other things, I agree with what he's saying here. The rest is irrelevant to this post..
Regarding his age, I was going by a Guardian report on Welsh which states that the Glasgow police arrested him for drunkenness at a football match who stated that records showed his birthdate to be some seven years earlier than he was claiming.
He seems to have flirted with the more undesirable elements and aspects of society. To me this tempers my respect for his views on society and its ills, of which he seems to have been a part throughout his life.
'The rest is irrelevant to this post'

It always interesting though, don't you think, to have a perspective on someone's background and whether they have a bit of an axe to grind.
//He seems to have flirted with the more undesirable elements and aspects of society.//

How high and mighty we are. Guess you are not into reforming then?

And once again many things held about an individual on the PNC are not verified, apart from a description of Fat maybe.

Hahahahaha! I have missed these AB comedy threads.

I'd have to agree with the principle Mr Welsh is offering.

I would never offend anyone on purpose, and if i do offend someone, and they advise me, then we can discuss it, and if I believe I am in the wrong, I am happy to apologise.

But that's a long way away from living my life worrying about potentially offending complete strangers, and adjusting my life accordingly - that I am not willing to do.

Taking offence is a movable feast, and some people these days seem to be making a virtual profession out of it, in ways not seen since Mary Whitehouse was in her pomp.

It's not a way to live, and people should not be intimidated into tiptoeing around overly sensitive strangers.
Zacs - // He seems to have flirted with the more undesirable elements and aspects of society. //

Who can honestly say they haven't flirted with the more undesirable elements and aspects of society? I know I have!
