I have (almost) mastered moving from standing to sitting on the floor without using hands or knees, but am failing at what at first sight should be easy. Can you do it?

Kneel on one knee as if you are 'taking the knee'. You have one foot behind you and one in front flat on the floor.
If your right leg is behind you, reach with your right hand and pull your foot up to your bottom, your right knee stays on the floor. (I'm sure you can work it out if your left leg is behind you).
Easy, isn't it?

Just one question. Why do you want to?
I enjoy nourishment not punishment. I have no need to test my flexibility. At my age it’s not there to put to the test. :-)

Because I never been able to do them, mainly because I carried far too much weight. Now I'm a slim Jim I want to at least try. Mobility, flexibility and balance are important in older folk.
i place my right foot behind my left and round to the other side to they are touching but my right is on the left and my left on the right with the right ankle hugging the back of the left leg then i just go straight to my bottom in a slightly controlled but not totally fashion is this good enough or is it cheating getting back up again is harder

Going from standing up to sitting down, roadman? That's more or less how I do it, with an ungainly bump at the end.
I can get up from sitting without using my hands but not my knees. I will keep trying.
Not too difficult, I just had to adjust the left foot forward enough to counter the tendency to tilt forwards.
Oh I see. Well done for losing the weight.

Try this one barry (anybody), slide along to 11mins 35 secs and watch the next 20sec standing up routine. https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m001lh1b/click-forever-young
