Vitamin D

I’ve been taking Vit D regularly this winter. Not prescribed just voluntarily. Remind me of the benefits, I didn’t notice any effects good or bad. Should I stop now that the days are longer and I’m outside more?

the sun provides vitamin D, so there's a case for taking pills in winter, or if you are a mole.

We take them all year round because we don't spend enough time outdoors. Good for bones, muscles and teeth.
If you are an outdoorsy type and don't keep covered up then you can stop taking up during the summer. I
There is a school of thought that VitD helps with Covid - not sure if its the after effects or whilst you have it.
But, I remember being there is a high number of VitD deficiencies amongst the GB population due to the lack of decent sunlight.
So as long as its a reasonable does - carry on - if you want medical opinion give your GP surgery a ring.
I stopped taking them & at a recent visit to the doctors, she chided me for stopping. So I now take them all the time on her recommendation.
I take it all year round because I have to wear Factor 50 plus as I burn easily and badly.
They are cheap enough so I see no real reason to stop. One a day, not a problem.
It's no so much about benefits. More to do with avoiding symptoms of deficiency.
My rheumatologist always asks me if I take it regularly.
Check out YouTube for vitamin benefits & side effects. If you are taking Vit D it's apparently a good idea to take Vit K too, as it encourages calcium to not stay in the tissues/blood vessels but move into the bones.
If you eat a good diet of meat, cereal and green veg you don't need K supplements.
I am on a prescribed maintenance dose of 800iu daily. I have nearly levels done and have still needed top ups after long hard winters when I haven't been out much. Expect my next bloods will say the same. Helps with my long covid and RA fatigue and joint pain
Be careful with vit K, the therapeutic dose is quite small and it can cause side affects. Better to have a bowl of special K for breakfast and some green veg, kale, broccoli, and Brussels sprouts are good
Maydup. unless you are housebound or have a diagnosed VitD3 deficiency, you needn't continue taking the Vit D during the summer.

My opinion.
What sqad says is true...but only if you are getting proper frequent sun exposure. Though it sounds as if you will be.

I'm now taking it regularly. When we lived in France all O.70s were prescribed a (free) MASSIVE dose of Vit D to be taken end October. They reckoned it was worth the money to increase immune reactions.
interestingly, after OH's spell in hospital in March, they sent him home with - a large dose of Vitamin D! I'll keep on taking it. Can't guarantee enough sun here.

Thanks all. I do spend time outside now that the weather is better and the days longer. I might reduce down to a couple of doses a week just to keep in the habit and increase again in the winter.
