although probably not visibly racist, are the badges of the big manchester clubs insensitive to modern thinking on the slave trade?

Manchester United started as Newton Heath Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway F.C.
Ships are racist.
Tall sailing ships docked at Liverpool.
By the 1890’s when the ship canal opened, it was steam ships coming into Manchester, not sail ships.
And now there aren’t any cotton mils left in Manchester, let alone wooden ships bringing in the raw materials. Just tippex it out, not relevant anymore anyway.
I've always thought pictures of ships shouldn't be allowed on anything.

We feel better about ourselves when there are fewer ships depicted on things.
I dont know about that, but Tenhags coat is hanging on a shoogly peg.Me and partner had £20 on Man U to win by 3 clear goals tonight. What an embarrassment.
Beware because Sam Smith will be saying that Manchester clubs should be called Themchester United and Themchester City!!
Sam Smith, now there's a boat for yer.
The ship is nothing to do with the slave trade! In fact, Manchester cotton workers in the mills refused to use cotton that came from America.
As a genealogist I cannot understand why people want to destroy their heritage. It is their history, it is what shaped them. Everyone has slaves as ancestors whatever their colour! Goes back to the Egyptians and beyond.
Surely we should be concentrating on the slavery that is here today and work together to do something about that.

Well said friend.
That's all well and good, but surely abolishing symbolic pictures of sailing ships would be a step in the right direction.
Yep, well said carole
Bunch of ship stirrers :/
One of my Cornish ancestors ,a cabin boy ,was kidnapped by the Barbary pirates and taken to Africa where he was enslaved for several years to the Sultan of Morocco. Thousands of white Europeans were captured and many were held for ransom.
Exactly my point andres. Bad things happened on ships or were facilitated by ship transport to lots of people from all kinds of backgrounds.

If ship pictures were abolished we could forget it happened and all feel better about ourselves.
