Damn those veggies!
Its all the fault of those vegetarians/ vegans
There was no Veg shortage, only in some supermarkets that didnt want to pay the farmers more to cover their extra fuel costs.

All the independents round here were piled high - and didnt shove the prices right up.

I also understand that it is strongly rumoured that the Pope is an ardent follower of the Roman Catholic faith and that bears have seldom been seen using public conveniences whilst in the woods.
I want to know who leek'd this to the press.
Shortage of "salad" can only be a blessing.

If vegetables are in short supply, then no better time to switch to a carnivore diet for a trial period. (I hear it helps counteract net zero bores making unreasonable demands, too.)
Didn't notice that much of a rise locally, stuff always goes up out of season anyway. But then again it's not that big a seller where I live, Round here meat and two veg is a turkey twizzler chips and mash!
Well, here, our local egg-selling lady has just increased her prices from £1.10 per 1/2 doz. to £1.50! She's almost in tears and says she is now selling them at cost. The rise is because the suppliers are having to use power because birds are being kept inside because of bird flu. Eggs are one of the fundamental foodstuffs, so will push rises in everything.

From Sky news
\\Rising salad and vegetable costs linked to the shortages of last month contributed to the upwards pressure on inflation, alongside higher pub and restaurant alcohol prices, the Office for National Statistics reports.//

I thought the cost of living crisis prevented people from going out and buying booze, unless there isn't a cost of living crisis.
In a society it's usual for some to be better off than others, and being less affected by the cost of necessities have sufficient wealth left over for non-essentials; such as booze to take their mind off the awful state of just about everything.
