With all the medical conditions out there and all the knowledge how do they not worry when they get symptoms themselves? There is a saying ignorance is bliss but obviously they don’t have the advantage of this

Or would you say there is slightly higher health anxiety among doctors and nurses

A Chinese study concluded that health anxiety is common in medical employees:

Perhaps, as suggested here, "anxiety is a virtue"?

Not when they're training, that's for sure.
They get it ... Especially medical students and the newly qualified juniors... Headache two days on the trot and they are convinced it's a brain tumour, bit of indigestion, gastric ulcer,... We just used to give them a cup of tea then tell them they didn't have time to be ill, while watching the ones that didn't look right. People forget nurses tend to look after everyone on the ward Not just the ones allocated a bed.
Surely they know when its a genuine illness though, and not just something they have imagined and convinced themselves is life threatening.
Today...thanks to the media in all it's forms, EVERYBODY is a doctor.
I have noted the links above re China and the 2nd link was prolonged and boring and I quickly lost interest.

In my experience health anxiety is exactly as prominent in qualified medical staff as in the population as a whole.
I would guess that a level of professional detachment is a requirement for anyone working in a field with potential stresses, like medicine.

Over-thinking makes any professional less effective, it has to be acknowledged, and guarded against.
A-H good point.

I have two "pigeon holes" one for myself and one for anyone else but often the pigeons get confused ;-)
Health links on line can bring on anxiety, along with trying to sell you the cure? Always stick to NHS links I think, most of these ( think they are doctors) come from the USA.
