Living in an hard-water area, I need to descale my kettle often and afterwards it leaks all over - even from the joins in the plastic handle. I then have to buy a new kettle! Why does this happen?

Don't think you understood my question. Whatever I use to descale my kettle, it leaks badly afterwards even from the join in the handle. Lizzyeddy
