I'm an ardent Brexiteer. I expected no particular advantages from it. I had no doubt there would be problems. The EU keeps its members in check by the threat of problems if they fail to comply with their edicts and it was guaranteed they would make life as difficult as possible for any member with the temerity to leave. There is no reason for there to be trading difficulties between the UK and the EU. Remainers would say that's the UK's fault for leaving. I would say it's the EU's fault for making trading beyond the bloc so difficult. But of course that's not surprising because the EU's main strategy is to protect trade within the bloc at the expense of its members being able to trade freely outside it.
All I expected was for the UK to no longer be a member of the EU. That's almost been achieved. Just one or two problems to iron out, but we're getting there and I'm immensely pleased.

Agreed! Let's fix the Brexit we have. Emphasis on resolving issues surrounding the NI protocol and making it workable. Of course, there will be concessions, but more importantly, the political will on both sides.
On an historical note let us not forget, Sir Robert Peel deserves special praise for driving through (at greàt political cost to himself) the 1946 Act 'Repeal of the Corn Laws'.
Ironically this was to spell the end of protectionism and led to freetrade in Britain.
As an aside, had Peel not been ousted, the Great Famine in all likelihood would have been averted.

LOL... I think it was a guy from Switzerland who had worked in London for 15 years before returning home. His observations of British society led him to define a British perso as follows:
Someone who jumps into a German car, to go to an Irish pub to drink an Indian lager or Belgium beer.
Then on their way home, they stop off for a Turkish kebab or Chinese takeaway. Once home, they sit on a piece of Swedish furniture to watch an American film on a Japanese TV set.
But most of all, a British person is someone who is highly suspicious of foreigners!
