Amazon Return For Refund And Parcel Lost

Does anyone knows what happens if the parcel is lost in transit?
The parcel was returned and dropped off to Post Office with Amazon proved return label via Royal Mail 48hour track service. But it's status says it is still in transit. This is since last Monday. The other items returned on the same day and at the same post office had been delivered.
So I will be out of pocket if the parcel is lost to Amazon?

Whenever I have returned something to Amazon via the Post Office I have had am immediate email from Amazon telling me the refund had been issued but might take a few days to reach my credit card. By immediate I mean that by the time I had got home the email was waiting for me.
I assume the PO gave you a receipt for the package; that should be enough for Amazon.
I've just remembered that a few months ago I returned a package to one of Amazon's associated sellers ie, I'd bought it via the Amazon website but it didn't come directly from them. When I hadn't received the refund after about a week I contacted Amazon who said I had to deal with the seller via them. I got an email from the seller asking for a copy of my PO receipt and received my refund very quickly.
On two occasions, I returnt items and they refunded me immediately.

The first one, they sent a reminder saying it hadn't been received and if not received by a specific date, the refund would be recovered.

I had proof of the return so ignored it thinking there might be a delay in their system.

I then received a second reminder and when I 'phoned them, it turnt out the item had been received at their end shortly after my returning it.

They apologized, said it would be sorted and not to worry about it but I received another reminder because no-one had updated their system.

The next item I ordered had to be returnt and the same thing happened. It was sitting at their returns site but the system hadn't been updated so a reminder e-mail was sent to me.

I was not a happy bunny and they gave me a £10 credit but that can be used only for items selt by Amazon so it's not as good as it sounds.

If Royal Mail is saying it's not been delivered yet, it might be delayed by the strike action but give Amazon a ring and see what they say.

They should be able to track it at their end and see it's on its way so they might refund you on that basis.




I'd give it a bit more time to see if it arrives. A Christmas card that was posted on Wednesday morning of last week, using First Class mail, from just 10 miles away from me took 6 days to get here, arriving yesterday morning. So '48 Hour Tracked', which is basically '2ndClass', over a longer distance might take quite a bit longer at the moment. (You need to remember that there are some predictions that Christmas cards will still be arriving in February, so 2nd Class mail certainly isn't moving very quickly at the moment!)
As TCL mentioned, it could be impacted by postal strikes. I had to report a lost credit card which should have been delivered two weeks ago.
