With UK annual inflation running at over 11%, the postal workers are accused of ‘holding Christmas to ransom’ with strikes, having been offered 9% over 2 years (less than 4.5% per year).

Meanwhile the Royal Mail Chief Executive Officer’s (Simon Thompson) latest bonus is worth 27% (£142,000), despite seriously missing service targets.

obviously, the posties should misdeliver or just throw away more of the mail: the rewards for failure are high.

I’m sorry, I don’t care about the CEOs etc. I care about my post being delivered and my postman being treated well.

However, everyone is going on strike because their pay rises don’t match inflation. Well, isn’t that the same for all working people?
We can’t all go on strike or the country would fall apart. I’m a lefty, but this is doing my nut in.
TBH i'd take 9% now and nothing next year ( or a new job or retire ) and hope inflation falls alot by 2024. Bird in the hand etc
Actually the offer in private eye has been improved abit and is 9% over 18 months. Not to shabby... more than most of us is getting....but yes we'd all like more

Royal Mail bosses also trying to shift business away from letters to parcels and stop the Saturday delivery to domestic properties. Parcels are more lucrative.
When someone believes they are underpaid for their talents, why don't they apply for a job for which they are better suited, and free their job for somebody who would appreciate it?
Yes, Rev, there's all these well-remunerated jobs going begging.
Rev green. I don't think jobs are ten-a-penny nowadays. When did you last apply for a job?
Royal Mail strikes are not just about money. The company also want to rip up many of the terms and conditions.
To be frank these strikes need to be stamped out.
The post service has to adapt to the new way of communication. Emails have all but put paid to a regular mail service and tbh, I wouldn't even know they were on strike if it wasn't for the news telling me.
