Joe Lycett ( never heard of him before ) says he is going to burn 10k of his cash if David Beckham does not witthdraw from doing the advertising campaign for the Qutar government for the football world cup .

Should DB agree to this , even if he could ,or is JL promoting himself ?

Dont get me wrong I too disapprove of the World cup being there, but as with the SA 'problems' in the late 80's should politics and sport be separate? I personally think so. So I guess disapprove but go and partake, but dont be seen to be enjoying ones self.

No, it isn't. Blackmail is demanding payment or another benefit from someone in return for not revealing compromising or damaging information about them.

So this is more like coercion: persuading someone to do something by using force or threats; the threat of shredding ten grand, in this case.

But ten grand is pin money to Beckham, there's no threat at all. Beckham gives loads to charity, Lycett's piddly £10K is his to do what he wants with.

So this is really just a PR stunt that Lycett is using to draw attention to Beckham taking the Qatari cash, in the hope that he'll back down.

Beckham reportedly got 10 million reasons from the Qatar authorities as a 'Brand Ambassador' so why should he consider walking away.

Shredding £10,000 in Bank of England notes will help the economy as they will no longer have to be redeemed eventually, unless the shredded pieces are presented to the B of E, where some poor clerk will have to reconstruct the notes as far as possible, to ascertain the value and credit the presenter in due course.

Joe Lycett is patron of a charity in the town where I live. He has won them money on game shows. I will be very disappointed in him if he does shred the money, 10k would make an enormous difference to them.

Joe Lycett is making a fool of himself, and David Beckam should be ashamed of becoming an ambassador for Quatar. I can only assume he is too thick to understand what really goes on, as he hardly needs the money.
