The truth is there is no punishment to fit this crime. Human rights prevent anyone from carrying out the same torture on the guilty and to instill such fear of terror and pain. The hopelessness and despair poor Seb endured. The impact on those involved in the investigation and trial cannot be underestimated for they had to read the facts. R.I.P.

When DNA started being used in criminal cases it convicted a lot of murderers. It also released a lot of Death Row inmates in the US.
Men who'd been found guilty at their original trial and confirmed as such at several subsequent appeals.
And DNA isn't fool proof either if the police have a 'helpful' forensic scientist as certainly happened in one case.
Anyway, once you have CP on the books, there could be a degree of mission creep. I wouldn't trust any of our recent Governments as far as I could spit.

What do you mean in relation to CP being the penalty for some murderers?

well I am surprised to see a Best Answer involving Human Rights
how things change after er Brexit !

This is yet another "take your pardners for the usual dance....."
and like in "The Mouse and his Child", the puppets eventually dance without being bid.
or Dr Coppelius' automatons

No I dont think it is merited - "you have killed which is very bad and we will kill you and it is very good. You did it first"
You here is the killer and we are the "justice system"

The thing about capital punie is that Lord Kilgore said ( Kilmuir actually) " The thing about capital punishment is that there is no AAAAPPPPPPEEEAAALLLLL!"
This was to him an advantage and now , after Evans, Bentley, Irish bombers ( all) not as advantageous as once thought

[I admit I am going for the most off-the-wall post that DOESN'T get deleted. Front runner so far - obit of Luc Montagnier, deleted by a Very Concerned and Offended Mod, because he was dead. Post not mimsy enough] - I wont challenge you to think about it
The murderer of three police officers in Shepherds Bush by one Harry Roberts was truly, truly dreadful. What is worse is that Harry Roberts is alive and well, walking the clean streets of East Anglia. Dis- bleeding- graceful.
// I wont challenge you to think about it//

Phew! That's a relief.
And DNA isn't fool proof either if the police have a 'helpful' forensic scientist as certainly happened in one case.

forensic scientist - came up in the IRA bombers, when doctor Dread confirmed the innocent men stunk of explosive residue when er they didnt

or.... Arena CC of Manchester police assured Lord Kerslake that all procedures had been accurately followed. Then years later before Sir John Cousins, he ( apologised and was forced to) recant and admitted that his er letter was not true. [But he thought it was at the time honest so that is OK]
Latest news - Davebro turns down ( are you man or mousey? lost ya bottle have you Dave) the think Challenge

well at least he read it
Could the OP explain exactly why this case justifies capital punishment? I can see a 'revenge' argument, or a 'divine punishment' argument, or a 'disincentive' argument. Any others?
To hell with their human rights, and to hell with this pair of demons.
david small; I didn't know you were religious. Christian perhaps?
//Could the OP explain exactly why this case justifies capital punishment?//

If you can't see why then there is no point discussing it with you.
Every individual no matter how serious their crime, ought to be allowed to reflect on their wrongdoing and given the chance to reform.

Revenge has no place in a civilised society. It's a premeditated act. To be in favour of capital punishment is lending oneself to an
equally abhorent crime.

There are many scenarios that play out in life. Imagine if it was your next of kin up on a murder charge and faced with the death penalty.

All rights to visiting would be lost. No way back for that individual to atone their unlawful behavour.

How long then, before those families would shout 'the state murdered my son/daughter etc'.tv's

No matter how you look at it, Capital punishment is tantamount to; Murder by the State.
// In autumn 2022 the Parole Board is to consider releasing Pitchfork again //

Unfortunately High Court Judges did have at their disposal the instrument of handing down a sentence of 'Life Imprisonment with a Whole Life Order', when Pitchfork committed those crimes.

Could you imagine being under some sort of familial obligation to visit a vile murderer in jail for the next 39 years? I think I would rather they were done away with.
//No way back for that individual to atone their unlawful behaviour.//

ATONE! UNLAWFUL BEHAVIOUR! - How do you atone for months of cruelly torturing, beating & eventually murdering an innocent child? I think you you've got your head up your backside buddy.
I agree with you there, Dave.
// I think you you've got your head up your backside buddy. //

// agree with you there, Dave. //

Capital Punishment has no place in British society.

Get over it!
Great argument! The end. ;o)
