I used to have underfloor heating - but the downstairs flat is vacant now! LOL
//OK davebro, are you going to have a go at Hopkirk and pastafreak too or is it just me you have singled out for your erudite observations.//

No singling out - just shot gun splatter. I don't even look at the poster I'm responding to most of the time.
dave bro
houses for decades now have had a row of rcds in the power box
unless its an old house which needs rewiring badly and still has fuses

My flat was built in the 70s & still has fuses. I think there may still be older properties that haven't yet been rewired!
Incidentally there are a number of (later) systems which some may think are RCDs or give the same protection as RCDs but really aren't.

Maybe & new gov could bring in legislation that all home s must be brought up to "code". Be a great boost for electricians.
don't know if you can still get them but my inlaws had a pull string light with a built in heater (went round the bulb)
Don’t know if you can still get them, but we used to have a lightbulb that was also a heater.
is there an echo in here? lol
Ours was just a bulb that went into the normal pendant socket.
yes - the infrared heat lamp bulbs are generally rated at 100 watts so will run OK in a lighting socket.
not a lot of heat though!
mallyh @15.15 ---we have one like your in-laws. Circular reflective metal round the bulb and has a cord pull. Can have just the light ,heat and light or just the heater. Bought from Argos over 40 years ago. Never had a bit of trouble with it. No need for electric plugs in the bathroom.
When I was working many many years ago, it was in the spec not to have any electrical outlet in outstretched arm to a item like a tap. Kitchen bathroom. Don’t know if it’s changed. Only shaver sockets aloud in bathroom
surely it's not the socket itself that's the danger (modern ones blank off when unplugged) - it's anything that may be plugged into the socket? e.g. I seldom use the toaster in the bath!
