Hi everyone
Do any of you have experience of ordering prescription glasses on line. They seem so cheap compared with the opticians that I am wary. Also do Asda get their lenses made up at the same place as other opticians. Maybe someone on here is in the trade so to speak and have insider information !!!! Many thanks in advance for sharing any experiences you think might help me make a decision.

Used these about a dozen times.

Always very helpful, swift and reliable.
There are people on here who have done it...but I never would.
(If you get the glasses and you have a problem with them...you can't just pop back to Specsavers to have it sorted out).
they are OK, good idea to use your own old frames if it applies

Thank you all for that info
I never would either. When I get my new glasses they often need to be tweeked to fit may face.

Asda are very good and yes I believe they get them from the same place as others.
My wife is happy with her Asda varifocals but they won't supply my glasses as the prescription is too complex. Neither of us would buy glasses online
I've used these people many times :

https://www.glassesdirect.co.uk/

I've had a very occasional pair that weren't quite right or needed tweaking and they were tweaked/exchanged/refunded without a quibble.

I would say that I have a (very) simple prescription for distance/driving - if I needed varifocal or high-index lenses I'd probably not risk an online supplier - just too difficult to get them exactly right.

If you are going to order, you'll need one measurement that is not part of your optical prescription - the Pupillary Distance (PD) - worth asking whoever does your eye test to measure it and tell you what it is, rather than trying to estimate/measure it yourself.
Asda get their lenses from here:

Thank Chris, seems I had it wrong.

Not that it makes any difference to me where they are made.

Thanks sunny-dave and buenchico. I think on reflection I will go with Asda as my prescription isnt standard. Asda is reasonable for 2 pairs but I was a bit worried about the quality of the lenses which is why I was asking if all opticians by and large get their lenses made up at the same place. Thank you, you've all been very helpful
We’ve been getting our prescription specs from Asda since they started doing them. We’ve had varifocals, readers, and other half has a prism in one lens. Never had a problem and would be hard pressed to go anywhere else.
We go to a local optician for our eye tests though as Asda don’t do the diabetic one, and just take the prescription along to Asda.
Highly recommended.

Thanks Vagus, that's brilliant, what an accolade!! Many thanks
Had my eyes tested at Boots. I wanted to use my existing frames. They quoted £880 to do this for 3 pairs.
I couldn't afford that so had to choose from their frames.
Aye, but making spectacles from boots...
it worked for Cinderella
^^^ £880?

Ruddy 'eck!

You can get 19 complete pairs of specs for that at Asda - and still have £25 left over!
If the prescription is competently made, you can buy glasses in any store. The main thing is that they have quality products. Therefore, it is necessary to check the information about the store before buying. I have been told that at Ocuwear, you can find a pretty good range of glasses. You can check this information.
