A law so formulated by the excellent Simon Hoggart, which states that, 'if the converse of an announcement is inane, the announcement is superfluous', an example he gives is; "See if you can break your leg between the train and the platform and spend a month on crutches" or "If you see a suspicious looking bag, try opening it to see if it explodes"

The NHS website announces that in hot weather people should drink plenty of water & stay in the shade. !

LOL.
The NHS deals with the burns and the dehydration people suffer in hot weather so I don't see anything wrong with a bit of good advice. It's given with the best intentions and that does no harm.
Was you looking on the NHS website to find this Khandro. I guess not . It might of been useful for someone who was on there looking for info. It might help someone and harms no-one. And if they'd said nothing someone would have complained there was no advice and blamed Boris or something
Before you know it they’ll be recommending that you inhale and exhale repeatedly, just in case…..
the thing is that these kind of "announcements" ARE needed - people are stupid. A young lad in my work got heat exhaustion TWICE over the last hot spell we had, which necessitated contact with the NHS.
At the other end of the scale one of the old boys in my team got heat exhaustion in our office a couple of years ago - on the hottest day of the year he wore long sleeves and a ties and went for his usual constitutional walk in the full sun at 1pm for an hour. These announcements are tailor made for people like those two (and even then, clearly they dont listen!)
Some of it though is not advice, it’s trying to stave off natural selection!

:0) They also suggest wearing a hat, so I suggest the inane converse would be;

'Try going without water & stand in the hot sun without wearing a hat all day & see if you dehydrate.'

Only joking folks.
