Hi, me and my girlfriend are going to vegas in the new year, and I was wondering if you could help me to choose a hotel. (were in our early 20's)
I have looked at them all (on the strip) and its kinda hard to choose. At the moment, were looking at the New York New York, Luxor, and The MGM. I quite fancied the Bellagio, but that seems a bit too expensive for us. Everyone seems to reccomend the Luxor, it seems to be a very popular hotel. Has anyone been the the NYNY? That looks quite nice to me.

Any advice much appreciated.

Tom.

Hi Tom. Done Vegas 5 times got married there in 2000. Any of the hotels you mentioned are good to be honest, I've stopped in the NYNY but sadly on september 11th 2001. my wife did not want to stay there any longer as we were on a high floor, {irrational I know} however before and since then we've stayed in the Excalibur across the road and it's a hoot!! Any of them will serve you well. Enjoy!!!
Hi TomTom, I can't help you I'm afraid, but me and Mr Jules would like to go to Vegas for our wedding anniversary next year and we are looking into this at the moment. I too like the look of the Luxor, but we are also investigating the Hilton, I know it is a bit further down the Strip but not too far down. I don't know if staying in one of the 'themed' hotels would get a bit much after a while you know a bit like having Disney rammed down your throat :) so thinking of staying in a non-themed hotel and then just visiting the rest - open to comments though.
Not much to choose between Luxor,MGM,Excalibar and NYNY, they are all interlinked by a high walkway, have stayed in all 4, the Luxor had been refurbished by the time we went in April 06 and we liked it, and it wasnt over the top price wise after all you wont spend much time in there, too much to see & do.
If you stay in the MGM you are nearest to the monorail as it runs from the back of the hotel.
We once stayed in Circus Circus and it was the pits, never again.
My other piece of advice is take a direct flight.
Dont forget to ask at the desk when you check in for a free copy of Whats On, then you can plan your day.
Have a great time, its like Disney for grown ups.
I recommend the Stratosphere - reasonably priced - good food - not as busy as some of the others - we have been twice a total of 18 days - and we would go back - need we say more
All the hotels you mentioned are good choices - but wandering through of all of them I prefered the Luxor - can't give you any good reason except it just felt like it would be a good place to stay. The MGM is really vast and I wasn't as enamoured of the design but that is a very personal choce. Likeswise the New York didn't appeal to me as much as other hotels (I liked the Venetian, Bellagio and Aladdin decor but they are more expensive). The Luxor just seemed to be a fun place to stay

We stayed at The Mirage which was absolutely brilliant and perfectly placed towqards the centre of the strip.

Have a great time in vegas. I loved it and if my lottery numbers come up there's a suite in the Venetian with my name on it!
Just to add that i have stayed in the Circus Circus and unlike the earlier reply i found it to be great! We stayed there in 2001 so maybe it has lowered standards or improved since Dee Sa was there. Compared to the bigger hotels that you mentioned it is much cheaper but the room we had was on the rear block directly facing the stratospere and was a large well kitted out room which was very clean, i have standards and it met all of them!!

It is worth bearing in mind that you won't be in the room all that much as there is so much to do and see in Vegas that i doubt you will want to be hanging around in a hotel room.

We were there mid february and it was really hot. Have a fab time! x

ps - if you or your gf look under 21 you will need to keep your passport with you for ID if you want alcoholic drinks! I was just 19 when i went and was stuck with soft drinks but still had a great time!
Read www.tripadvisor.com and make up your own mind. Personally the Wynn is fantastic but costs loads!
Stayed in Luxor - very good - thought that NYNY was 'depressing and grey' once inside. MGM is huge and looked nice
Caesar's Palace was fab! This year we're going to The Bellagio - it's quite expensive, tho'.
You are able to come & go quite freely at all the hotels, so you can go and have a look at the others - it'll take ages as all the hotels are massive.
Enjoy.
chimpydoodle -- stayed in CircusCircus on 2005, sadly it had definately gone to the dogs, even the reception didnt look good, the room was okay but nothing worked, the hairdryer, the room safe, the tv and of course everyone who comes to put things right expects a tip. Its clients semed to be US families with small kids who obviously had got a good deal.
The buffet however was excellent value for money.
I did notice this year that everything had gone up in price, a taxi driver told us this is because Las Vegas no longer has to compete with New Orleans as a holiday destination.
