Would you recommend having this test done here, or is it preferable to go to an Eye Hospital? Are they trained correctly at Specsavers? It is for macular degeneration. Thanks all.

Specsavers employ an optometrist (or ophthalmic optician) for their OCT scans They have completed a four year degree, are extensively trained and fully licensed to examine the eyes. They are also able to diagnose certain conditions and abnormalities of the eye. An optometrist may refer you to an ophthalmologist if they notice a severe condition in the eye...

My sister had this done yesterday while she was on a mini break because she had a problem with her vision. She went into a local Specsavers and was very happy with the diagnosis.
I had one at Boots and was happy with how it was carried out and how the results were explained.
Specsavers do a good job of scanning, but for something so serious I think the eye hospital would be preferable.
You don't need a scan to detect macular degeneration.

I would go to an Eye Hospital personally, but and Optician is qualified to diagnose macular degeneration.

It is nearly always your optician that detects problems such as macular degeneration, glaucoma, cataracts - it is usual to be referred to the hospital when necessary.
Specsavers detected that I had cataracts and notified my GP, who arranged treatement. So yes, they're fully trained.
Jura is correct
have the test done at spec-savers
you can ask for an image by the way ( it is your data)
(but not an interpretation)

Thanks, booked in for next week. So when they confirm this, what is the next step, what will my GP do?
