While visiting hospital the other day, where masks are still mandatory, it occurred to me that they (masks) cause a similar problem that Forums have - i.e. no facial expression feedback, so scope for misunderstanding exists.

Masks aren't quite so bad because voice tone can help, but several times I was tempted to say "I'm smiling under this mask" - luckily never "I'm scowling"!

Amazing the things which cross one's idle mind while enduring the inevitable waiting which occurs in hospital.

Ho hum, time for bed I think ;-)

Along a parallel line of thinking, I get fed up of all the posts we get from (generally younger?) people here saying things like "My boyfriend sent me this text but I don't know what he means" and/or "I sent a text but the reply doesn't make sense to me". I've lost count of the number of times that I've had to point out that the thing that they're using to send text messages is called a smartPHONE because it can be used to make phone calls, where the tone of someone's voice can convey a lot of information and it's possible to butt in with a query straight away if something's not clear!

Technology only aids communication if it's used properly!

(Er, sorry! Rant over now!)

Lol you’re both so right. I’m a member of a FB girls chat group & the amount of daily posts saying just that Chris - ‘My bf sent me this today - what do you think he means??’. Erm, just ring him and ask him! Lol
