When I go out with the boys my missus will ask what time I will be home - which if fine, but why do I always say oh I'll be home a ten then go out have a few beers get scared to call her and say I want to stay out longer, turn my phone off and suffer the consequences later.

My husband is the same. I always tell him to go in the gents if he doesn't want anyone to know he is phoning home and just send a text message to say he is going to be late just so I know he is ok. He does it for a while then still reverts back to not telling me.
but what you fail to understand is that most of the time we intend on getting home by the time we say. It's just that we get caught up in things before we realise what the time is, then we're late. And usually have no idea what time we'll be home by then.
I never ask my man what time he'll be home when he's on a night out, but he always tells me. It goes in one ear and out the other with me anyway as I know if I'll be lucky if he's home before I get up the following morning!! Hahahaha!

So long as I know who he's with then I'm fine. I can gauge by the attendees what kind of night it's going to be and therefore what kind of time he's likely to be home.

I would worry if he stayed out later than usual though. I'm one of those people that thinks the worst...

"Oh God! What if he's got too drunk and separated from the others and staggered into a road and been hit by an articulated lorry and he's lying in a hospital bed right now and he's only got 30 seconds to live and I'm not there by his side..." *pant pant*

And so on and so forth.
The only time my wife asks what time I'll be home is if she's wondering if I'll bring a takeout back. If so then she'll not bother cooking for herself and we eat together when I get in, which can be really nice when the kids are all asleep. If I'm going to be very late back then she'll just cook for herself, but she never tries to pin me down and I never think to say unless there's food involved.Lol.
